We have been writing a lot about branding and the things that you should be doing. This time, we will tell you about things you should NOT be doing unless you want to ruin your brand.

1. Do not show respect to your customers

Treat your customers like they were nothing more than walking wallets who cannot think for themselves. Being unfriendly and unhelpful when engaging with your customers is an easy way to get a bad reputation. Do not respond to their emails and talk to them like they are just wasting your time and never bother about being polite.

2. Build a clunky website full of annoying pop-ups

There is nothing worse than badly designed unintuitive website full of adverts and pop-ups. If you want to put off your customers this is the best way to do it. Oh and you should never bother checking your grammar and punctuation! Eventually everyone will be tired of closing adverts and digging through your website to find the information they need. The bad impression you make should be enough. Your company will look unprofessional and you might get an award for most disliked brands.

3. Don’t bother about staying true to your values

You claim to provide the best quality products on the market? Don’t bother with your quality control. Failing to deliver on your brand’s promise is the best way to disappoint customers. They will no longer trust you and rest assured they will share their stories with others ruining your brand.

4. Ignore complaints

Every company fails to deliver from time to time. Quick reaction, an apology and good compensation can remedy the situation and actually strengthen your brand. Why bother though? Ignoring your customers and not replying to their complaints (especially those posted on social media) can help you ruin your brand quicker than you think.

5. Post irrelevant content on your social media

Your company has a large number of followers on Facebook and Twitter? Great, spam them with the most irrelevant things you could think of. Posting about issues that they will find plainly boring and absolutely not related to what you are doing should be enough to make you look like a fool. If you would like to ruin your brand even more post controversial and offensive content. A nasty tweet or two will help in your quest to ultimate brand destruction.
